Book collection and fundraiser

Freedom Technology Center

Photos by Bill Kendrick

On Friday, March 26th, Linux Users Group of Iraq members and supporters, Freedom Technology Center supporters and BookCrossing members came together to donate books to the LUG of Iraq, which is establishing a Linux Center in Baghdad to conduct training in all levels of Linux usage, administration and development.

Around 2pm, a collection of books (mostly mailed to the Center) had been opened and stacked.

Box carnage!

We rearranged some tables and the books to provide more space for the crowd of people coming later in the day.

Walk-ins came throughout the day, as well.

The Open Source, Perl-based game Frozen Bubble was used to... err... test the projector. Yeah, that's it!

This photo was originally of three people, but two decided to transform themselves into blurs by moving right as it was taken!

Chips, salsa, muffins and other snacks were available. (Pizza came later)

FTC has a pinball machine...

...and a few video games, including "Blasteroids"!

The book collection grows!

The crowd grows, too!

New books coming in, and getting a once-over.

A few hundred books were collected by the end of the day!

Folks chatting.

Frozen Bubble starts getting some action.

A cute puppy makes a stop to the Center.

Dogs love Open Source too, apparently!

And babies love dogs!

At the end of the night, we watched TRON.

"Hey, I know! Let's digitize an orange!"
